Explain how social contexts influence television programmes (Cuffs)
Social context is how media products reflect the society in which they are produced and that of their target audience. For example, in Cuffs, there is an innocent muslim man shopping. All of a sudden, a gang of men start verbally abusing him and stabs the man causing his death. This shows the issue in society of how many people stereotype muslims as being terrorists, so therefore they strongly dislike them. Furthermore, muslims who watch this can relate to being discriminated like this which can make the show seem more realistic to them. However, other people might watch this and see how innocent people are being unfairly treated just because of their race, which might make them change their view on Muslims and treat them differently in real life. The scene is quite cool toned which gives the scene a negative, unfriendly tone. Also the camera zooms in on the dead body, and does a focus pull which brings all the attention to it.

A clear understanding of social contexts.
ReplyDeleteTo improve, when describing the scene, add more technical (camera, editing, sound, M.E.S.) terms and examples to further illustrate your point.
I might also suggest a second point here to support your view.
Please make these additions asap.
